There are lots of volunteers involved in the various stages of race preparation. Volunteers are a great help for the Organisers of the event and assist athletes in all the different phases of the race.
Their contribution is essential and their dedication and passion are appreciated by all athletes they meet along the various stages: at race bib collection, at refreshment points along the route, at the start and finish line of the races or giving a hand to the lowest-ranking to encourage them to cross the finish line in the set time. ACTIVITIES
Every year, more than 600 volunteers provide invaluable help to make participating in the Lavaredo Ultra Trail an unforgettable experience.
There are many activities where your assistance is essential.
Course Management
The sweepers close the race and ensure that athletes don’t fall behind, helping them cross the finish line within the established time. They also assist in removing the markers along the course.
The forerunners precede the athletes, ensuring that the course is in good condition. To be a forerunners, you must be trained and have at least a general UTMB Index of 600.
Both sweepers and forerunners must have a valid medical certificate for competitive activity: Athletics.Welcome Area
The Ice Stadium in Cortina serves as the headquarters of the event. This is where all registered athletes are welcomed, and where bib distribution and race pack handouts take place. It’s also the venue for the Expo.Bags Deposit Management
This involves the collection, organization, storage, and return of runners' personal bags before and after the race.Start Area Management
This involves controlling access to the start area, ensuring that only athletes are allowed in, and enforcing the grid placement.Finish Area Management
This consists of welcoming runners at the finish line, handing out the Finisher medals, and facilitating the flow of runners leaving the area.Info Point
If you speak one or more foreign languages, you can help at the Info Point by distributing informational materials or answering questions from runners and their supporters about the course, checkpoints, aid stations, etc.Aid Stations
Assist in managing the aid stations along the race routes, under the supervision of the Aid Station Captain. From setting up to distributing food and drinks, and all the way through to the final closure.
FAQ
We only accept volunteer applications from individuals who are at least 18 years old at the start of the event.
No previous experience is required, and you don't need to be a trail runner to volunteer (except for pace-setters and sweepers).
If it’s your first time, we’ll help you get oriented and feel comfortable during your tasks, and we’ll make sure you have all the information you need before joining us.
In the application form, you can express your preference for a specific area.
However, we cannot guarantee that you will be assigned to your chosen task, as it depends on the number of applications we receive and the organizational needs. We will do our best to accommodate your preference.
Volunteers available for multiple days will be given priority for the requested role.
Each volunteer shift lasts approximately 8 hours. Some shifts may be slightly longer, especially in case of last-minute needs.
We understand how valuable people’s time is, so we are grateful for any support you can give us.
Therefore, we also consider availability for half-day shifts.
In the application form, you can let us know the times you are available.
The exact shift times will be communicated via email closer to the event.
The organization does not provide accommodation for volunteers, but lunch and dinner are provided by the Alpine units of Civil Protection.
