Equipment Advices
To address all the different possible climatic conditions on the day of the race, athletes must have the following equipment with them for the entire duration of the race

Regulations
Art. 1 GENERAL INFORMATION
In collaboration with Camelbag Ssdrl, the Municipality of Cortina d’Ampezzo, the Alpine Rescue Team and the Italian Alpine Club, Ironman Italy Srl have organized the 8th edition of “Lavaredo 20K”, a mountain trail running race in semi-autonomy which is 20 km long with an elevation gain of 1,000 meters, starting on Thursday 22 June 2023 at 5 pm in Corso Italia in Cortina d’Ampezzo. The maximum time for the race is 4 hours. The path unwinds in an alpine environment along Dolomite trails which are part of the UNESCO World Heritage site.
Art. 2 PRE-REGISTRATION
Athletes who wish to participate in the Lavaredo 20K must pre-register between 1 October 2022 (8 am CET) and 10 October 2022 (10 pm CET). Pre-registration is free of charge. If the number of pre-registered athletes is greater than the 700 race bibs available, there will be a lottery.
All athletes over the age of 18 can pre-register; moreover, athletes must not suffer from vertigo and must have had some previous experience in the mountains.
The following will not be permitted to pre-register:
• athletes disqualified for using doping substances;
• athletes blacklisted by La Sportiva Lavaredo Ultra Trail by UTMB
Pre-registration can be:
• individual: for athletes who wish to participate individually;
• group: for friends, relatives etc. who wish to participate together. The group can be made up of a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 5 people. Groups of more than 5 people will be automatically rejected. Each member of the group must pre-register individually and indicate the name of the group in the appropriate field; the name of the group must be identical for all group members. In the case of a lottery, groups are considered as single entities. Group registration is only meant to foster participation among friends and relatives. Athletes who register in a group or individually have the same probability of being extracted.
Art. 3 LOTTERY AND REGISTRATION
There are 700 race bib numbers.
Between 11 and 14 October, pre-registrations will be verified and if there are more than 700 pre-registered athletes, there will be a lottery. On 15 October all athletes extracted in the lottery will receive an email with a link to register, which must be confirmed with payment made by credit card by 20 October. Failure to confirm by that date will lead to the definitive cancellation of pre-registration.
If some athletes extracted in the lottery do not confirm their registration, there will be a second lottery on 22 October among all the athletes who were not extracted.
a) Registration fees and payment method
The registration fee is 45.00 euro (+ Active commission), payable by credit card, and includes:
• race bib
• assistance and refreshment along the route and at the finish line
• race pack
• finisher medal
b) Pulling out of the race
Registration fees will not be refunded if an athlete pulls out of the race.
Should the race be annulled for reasons beyond the control of the Organizers up to 15 days before the event, the Organizers will refund 50% of the registration fees paid. This percentage is made necessary by the various expenses that the Organizers will have already incurred that cannot be recuperated.
Should the race be interrupted or annulled due to weather conditions, or for any other reason beyond the control of the Organizers, no refund of the registration fee will be made.
The following is not possible:
• postponing registration to the following year
• switching from one race to another
• race bib number exchange or use by anyone other than registered athletes.
Athletes caught with race bibs belonging to other athletes, even after the race, will be disqualified and put on the blacklist.
Art. 4 ELITE RUNNERS
Elite athletes can register without participation in the lottery on the basis of the criteria indicated in the following table:

Elite runners must:
• Be present at press conferences and official ceremonies to which they are invited;
• Be present at prize-giving ceremonies that concern them;
• Arrive at the starting point at least twenty minutes before the beginning of the race.
Art. 5 MEDICAL CERTIFICATE
NON-ITALIAN ATHLETES
Non-Italian athletes must fill in the certificate which can be downloaded here >>, have it signed and stamped by a doctor and upload it to their personal profile at https://myevents.active.com by 15 May 2023. This certificate must be valid on 22/06/2023.
Failure to do so by this date will lead to the annulment of registration without refund.
ITALIAN ATHLETES
Italian athletes must upload a copy of a valid competitive sports medical certificate to their personal profile at https://myevents.active.com by 15 May 2023. This certificate must be valid on 22/06/2023. Failure to do so by this date will lead to the annulment of registration without refund.
Medical certificates accepted are those that show fitness for competitive sports: athletics.
ITALIAN ATHLETES RESIDENT ABROAD
Italian athletes resident abroad who are unable to come to Italy to obtain a medical certificate for competitive sports must upload a copy of the medical certificate which can be requested with the contact form >>, documenting that the athlete has undergone the same medical examinations provided for by Italian legislation, to their personal profile at https://myevents.active.com by 15 May 2023. This certificate must be valid on 22/06/2023.
Failure to upload the certificate by this date will lead to the annulment of registration without refund.
Art. 6 COLLECTION OF THE RACE BIB NUMBER AND RACE PACK
Race number and race pack distribution shall take place at the Ice Stadium (via Bonacossa 1, Cortina d’Ampezzo) from 10.00 am till 4.00 pm on Thursday 22 June 2023. To collect race bib numbers, athletes must present a valid identity document.
Art. 7 MANDATORY EQUIPMENT
To address all the different possible climatic conditions on the day of the race, at their sole discretion and on the basis of the weather forecast provided by the competent body, the Organizers may modify the list of mandatory equipment. Any changes may be communicated up to 12 hours before the start of the race, therefore all athletes are advised to have all the mandatory equipment.
Athletes must have the following equipment with them for the entire duration of the race:
• camelbag or water bottle holder with a capacity for at least half-litre of liquid
• cell phone switched on with emergency numbers stored
• race bib number visible during the entire duration of the race
• anorak
• cup, beaker or flask (there are no glasses at refreshment stations)
• appropriate footwear.
Mandatory equipment may be worn or placed inside the race backpack. Spot checks on equipment will be carried out during the race.
Trekking poles are NOT permitted.
Art. 8 MAXIMUM TIME LIMITS AND CUT OFF TIMES; WITHDRAWING FROM THE RACE
The maximum time allowed to reach the finish line is 4 hours (by 9 pm on Thursday 22 June). A “pick up” service will follow the last runner.
There are two time limit/cut off points:

At Malga Larieto (15 km) a shuttle bus shall be present to pick up late athletes and take them back to Cortina.
Athletes who do not reach the time barrier by the established time limit will not be allowed to continue the race. Malga Larieto cut off point is situated after refreshment station. Once athletes have gone beyond the cut-off point, it is forbidden to go back to use the refreshment station. Race officials reserve the right to disqualify athletes who disrespect the rules.
In order to safeguard the health of the participants, medical staff at the check points have the authority to stop runners who are judged unfit to continue the race. In this case, the participant must follow the indications of the medical staff. Anyone who fails to do so will be immediately disqualified.
Participants who reach the check points after the maximum time, those who are injured and those who are judged by medical staff to be unfit to continue the race, and any other athletes who decide to drop out, shall be taken to the finish line by shuttle bus. For logistical reasons, athletes who have dropped out may have to wait before being accompanied to the finish area.
Any participant who drops out of the race at any point other than the established check points should make their own way back to Cortina and immediately inform the race Organizers by text message to the number indicated on the bib number.
Art. 9 REFRESHMENT STATIONS AND ASSISTANCE DURING THE RACE
Athletes are required to run in semi-autonomy and must carry at least half a litre of liquid. There is only one refreshment station on the race route: Malga Larieto (15th km).
Only athletes with a visible race bib number will have access to refreshment stations.
Food and drinks from the refreshment station must be consumed on the spot. It is forbidden to drink directly from the bottles in the refreshment station.
Rubbish must be placed in the appropriate containers.
Camelbags and water bottles may be filled with water only.
At the finish line there is another refreshment station.
Any purchase of food and liquids in the mountain shelters is at the athletes’ own expense.
Assistance to athletes from team or family members is prohibited.
Pacing and muling are not allowed.
Art. 10 START OF THE RACE
Athletes must be in Corso Italia in Cortina d’Ampezzo (BL) by 4.30 pm on Thursday 22 June 2023. At 5 pm the race begins. Race bib numbers and places in the starting grid will be assigned on the basis of participants’ UTMB Category Index.
Art. 11 CHANGING ROOMS AND BAG DEPOSIT
Changing room and bag deposit will be available at PALESTRA REVIS (via dei Campi 1, Cortina d’Ampezzo) from 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm on Thursday 22 June.
Athletes are advised not to place objects of value in their bags. In any case, the Organizers accept no liability for any theft, loss or damage to bags or their contents. After the race, bags may be collected at Palestra Revis not later than 9.15 pm on Thursday 22 June upon presentation of race bib. Under no circumstances will the Organizers send uncollected bags to athletes’ residences.
Art. 12 RACE ROUTE
The Lavaredo 20K route has been classified with a red label: EE itinerary for expert excursionists. This itinerary requires the ability to run on particular kinds of terrain as well as impervious or treacherous trails or paths (slopes with rocky outcroppings or debris) that are sometimes without barriers.
The Lavaredo 20K 2023 takes the following route:
Cortina (Corso Italia), Pista ciclabile, Vigna 1350, Crepe de Zumeles, Forcella Zumeles, Forcella Sonforca, Malga Larieto, Rifugio Mietres, Col Tondo, Cortina - Corso Italia, for a total of 20km and 1,000 metres of altitude difference.
Should adverse weather conditions occur or one or more paths become inaccessible, alternative routes will be outlined at the briefing before the start of the race.
ace kilometres are not marked. Athletes should strictly adhere to the marked race route and avoid taking shortcuts or cutting out sections of the route. Any departures from the official route will lead to disqualification and shall be at the sole risk of athletes.
Art. 13 INSURANCE
The Organizers underwrite a liability insurance policy for the entire period of the event, but participants are strongly advised to take out valid individual insurance to cover search and rescue costs in Italy.
Art. 14 SAFETY AND CHECK POINTS
The Organizers and the Alpine Rescue Team, in constant contact with Race HQ, will be positioned along the race route.
Ambulances with paramedics shall be positioned at different points along the race route, but also at the start and finish, where a doctor and an advanced medical facility shall be present.
Check points shall be set up along the route, where members of the staff shall monitor the athletes as they pass and also apply random checks to verify that the athletes are in possession of the mandatory race equipment.
Should anyone refuse to undergo the check on the mandatory race equipment, they shall be disqualified immediately.
Art. 15 ENVIRONMENT
The race takes place in a protected natural park area with a natural eco system. Participants are therefore required to fully respect the environment, by not leaving rubbish, picking flowers or disturbing the wildlife. Anyone found leaving rubbish along the route shall be disqualified from the race and incur the penalties laid down by municipal regulations. The Organizers invite athletes to bring a bag to carry rubbish or hankies to the refreshment stations.
It is obligatory to follow the signposted paths avoiding short cuts that can damage the surrounding environment.
To reduce waste production, there will be no disposable tableware (cutlery, glass, plates, bowls) at refreshment points and life bases, thus athletes must bring their own cutlery and containers if they wish to eat hot/cold food.
Art. 16 WEATHER
In case of adverse weather conditions (dense fog, snow or thunderstorms), the Organizers reserve the right to make last-minute changes, even during the race, to the route in order to eliminate potential hazards or conditions that could cause hardship for participants. The staff shall inform the participants of any changes. The Organizers also reserve the right to suspend or cancel the race if the weather conditions are such that they put athletes, staff or medical teams at risk.
Art. 17 DISQUALIFICATION, PENALTIES AND APPEALS
The following infringements will lead to immediate disqualification and withdrawal of the race bib number:
• failing to pass a check point;
• taking shortcuts;
• leaving rubbish along the race route;
• failing to aid a participant in difficulty;
• insulting or threatening staff or volunteers;
• using transport during the race;
• refusing to undergo checks by the medical staff along the race route;
• refusing to allow checks on mandatory equipment.
A one-hour penalty will be incurred for the following infringements:
• failing to have an anorak, camel bag or bottle with a ½ litre capacity
• unauthorized assistance
A thirty-minute penalty will be incurred for the following infringements:
• failure to show the race bib number.
The penalty may be applied immediately as soon as the infringement has been established or at the end of the race.
Penalties or disqualification can be appealed by writing to the race management within 30 minutes of publication of race results. Appeals will be evaluated and answered in the necessary time; decisions are final, without appeal.
Art. 18 PRIZES
The first 3 men and 3 women will receive prizes.
All participants that finish the race within the maximum time limit will receive a Finisher medal. Prize-giving will take place on Thursday 22 June at 8 pm in Piazza Dibona in Cortina.
Under no circumstances will prizes be sent or handed out in advance.
Art. 19 IMAGE RIGHTS
On registration, athletes authorize the Organizers to freely use any still or moving images depicting them during their participation in La Sportiva Lavaredo Ultra Trail by UTMB with no territorial or time limits.
Art. 20 WAIVER OF RESPONSIBILITY
Voluntary registration and subsequent participation in the race indicate full acceptance of the race rules and regulations and any subsequent changes made to them. By registering, participants exempt the Organizers from any civil or criminal liability for damage to persons and/or property caused by or to them.
